The book is edited by Julia Eccleshare, who is the children's editor of The Guardian Reviewand received the Eleanor Farjohn Award for her important contributions to children's book publishing. At 960 pages, it is more reference book than sit-down read. The book is arranged by age groups with the pages color coded to correspond to groupings from 0 to 3 years of age to young adult. Each entry includes gorgeous colored illustrations of the original cover artwork as well as reviews written by leading children's authors like Lois Lowry and Judy Blume. Each also includes the author's nationality and the book's theme, such as science and nature, family and friendship, or myths and legends. And much like Netflix has pop-ups that tell us “if you liked X, you’ll love Y,” Eccleshare includes sidebars with suggestions for books on similar subjects or other titles by the same author.
