Further, we encourage the submission of unique and brief clinical and scientific observations that do not fulfill the criteria for original articles.Sir.—During the past 10 years the number of inquiries concerning the availability of electives in international health from applicants to the pediatric program at the University of Arizona, Tucson, has been steadily increasing. A review of the personal statements of resident applications for 1989-1990 revealed that 20% (18/91) of the candidates had already had experience in international health, another 7% (7/91) will have had international health experience by the time they start their residency, and 3% (3/91) expressed an interest in international health work.
