No postdoctoral or clinical fellow should approach a new research project without reading the appropriate chapter in this book. The multiauthored text has a comprehensive state-of-the-art review by a senior investigator for every chapter. The literature reviews seem current, for the most part, to 1976. The authors write each cha[ill]ter with no apologies or undue explanation for novices in the field. References for chapters commonly number more than 300. Because perinatal physiology covers so many fields, this book should be most useful as a reference for investigators interested in a specific area of development (lung, kidney, etc) who wish to cross-reference their area of expertise against approaches to development in other systems. For the most part, the text eschews clinical medicine and will not be helpful for those looking for management techniques. The book is required for the SN - 0002-922X M3 - doi: 10.1001/archpedi.1979.02130050105032 UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archpedi.1979.02130050105032 ER -
