A variety of illnesses threaten life and impair various organs during this period, but a key aspect for the survivors is the effect of these problems on the nervous system. Evaluation of the consequences of these perinatal perils is in its infancy, but the foundation for future work in this area is elegantly outlined in this book.S. Saint-Anne Dargassies is the leading representative of the French school pioneered by André Thomas. She collaborated with him and later continued meticulously evaluating the neurological abilities of neonates. More than 25 years of work in this area make her an acknowledged expert, and her research led to the current techniques of gestational aging based on the neurological examination. In 1974, she published a book entitled Le développement neurologique du nouveau-né SN - 0002-922X M3 - doi: 10.1001/archpedi.1979.02130010111034 UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archpedi.1979.02130010111034 ER -
