N2  - This is certainly the briefest of the new books on pediatric cardiology and also the best suited to serve as an introduction to the subject for medical students, general practitioners, and pediatricians. The authors, each very well qualified and each with a different special interest, provide a very well balanced text. The book is divided into two parts with part 1 concerned with general considerations. There are several outstanding chapters in part 1, among them chapter 2 on "Embryology of the Heart" and chapter 9, "X-ray Examination." The roentgenogram reproductions are of excellent quality. In part 2, each of the common types of congenital heart disease is considered as a specific entity. The chapters are similar in form and begin with a historical note followed by discussion of incidence, etiologic factors, hemodynamics, clinical features, roentgenographic features, electrocardiography, differential diagnosis, prognosis, and surgery.
