N2  - The authors state as their goals: to encourage pediatricians to have an interest in helping patients psychologically; to describe the philosophy and methods at the Yale Child Study Clinic of dealing with parents and children in distress; and to suggest how to use nonmedical associates as colleagues in working closely with the pediatrician or at some distance.The authors have done this admirably and the book is a practical approach to the everyday problems seen by the practicing pediatrician. It is preferably a book to be read in its entirety rather than used by index for quick answers to a specific problem. The approach is a developmental one, and just as the pediatrician views the unfolding of the child physically and psychologically, so does the text take one through the developmental stages from the standpoint of both prevention and management of problems.The authors state that their psychological theoretical inclinations
