H. Moss (Amer J Dis Child117: 540-542 [May] 1969) raises the question of whether the patient described may have cystic fibrosis. We have had a number of patients with cystic fibrosis present with similar hypoprothrombinemic bleeding episodes prior to the diagnosis of this disease. Once these infants were placed on a low fat diet and pancreatic supplements, no further bleeding difficulty of this type was encountered. Because of our experience, it would seem that cystic fibrosis should be considered (if it was not) as a possible cause for this infant's symptoms and that studies, such as a sweat test, be carried out.
