The relaxed and informal manner in which the material is presented makes it a pleasure to read. The descriptions of disease entities, although necessarily brief, are factual and concise. The drawings are accurate and uncluttered. Emphasis is on nursing care, both preoperatively and postoperatively. The emotional support of the sick child and his parents is stressed throughout the book. For the most part, a thorough explanation is given for the various treatments and procedures. Many of the latter are listed in an easy-to-read numbered form. In some instances, a list of equipment necessary for a particular treatment room procedure is provided. The chapter on preoperative and postoperative care of the newborn is particularly thorough and complete. The impression is given that the author has encouraged the nurse to assume a greater degree of responsibility than SN - 0002-922X M3 - doi: 10.1001/archpedi.1969.02100030376033 UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archpedi.1969.02100030376033 ER -
