However, the fact that eye injuries are commoner in children than in the general population was shown by a recent study, which revealed that children up to 9 years of age account for over 20% of all the serious eye injuries.1 Since accidents of various kinds cause about 50% of all blindness in one eye and about 20% of all blindness in both eyes,2 proper and early treatment and prevention of injuries are extremely important.
