We would like to thank Drs Dubnov-Raz, Koren, and Finkelstein for their important reply to our study on SSRI exposure in utero and pregnancy outcomes.1 The higher prevalence of prolonged QT interval and longer mean QT interval2 is an intriguing finding, which may point to one mechanism through which SSRIs potentially affect newborns. We agree that an increasing amount of evidence suggests that there is a role of serotonin in fetal heart development. Apart from the animal studies described in the letter, unequivocal results from epidemiological studies might suggest an association between SSRI and heart defects.3- 4 Recent results from echocardiography of newborns with heart murmurs could corroborate the findings.5
