TY - JOUR T1 - The new-born infant: A manual of obstetrical pediatrics. Y1 - 1939/03/01 N1 - 10.1001/archpedi.1939.01990030243024 JO - American Journal of Diseases of Children SP - 729 EP - 729 VL - 57 IS - 3 N2 - This book, written by an obstetrician, takes a view of the newborn infant entirely different from that of the pediatrician. The first six chapters deal with immediate care, nursing care and technic and artificial feeding. Such matters as resuscitation with which the pediatrician does not usually deal, are explained in greater detail than in the ordinary textbook of obstetrics. The chapter on resuscitation is excellently done, as is that on breast feeding. Practical points of nursing technic are stressed and explained in detail. It is quite true that the mother's nursing of her baby may succeed or fail in this period of supervision by the obstetrician. The author gives advice that well may encourage the young mother to satisfactory breast feeding. There are six concise chapters on the disorders and malformations of newborn infants, and the final chapter concerns the care of premature babies. The bibliography is well chosen and SN - 0096-8994 M3 - doi: 10.1001/archpedi.1939.01990030243024 UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archpedi.1939.01990030243024 ER -
