N2  - Sulfanilamide has been shown to be effective in the treatment of meningococcic meningitis.1 Meningitis associated with acute meningococcemia has responded favorably to the drug.1b Acute meningococcemia without meningitis has subsided after the administration of this therapeutic agent.2 While sufficient data are not available for a final evaluation of the efficacy of this compound, it seems likely that it constitutes a valuable addition to the therapeutic armamentarium against meningococcic infection.The 2 cases of meningococcemia which are being reported are of interest because (1) in neither was there a demonstrable focus of infection; (2) in both chronic meningococcic bacteremia existed; (3) sulfanilamide in conventional doses promptly terminated the infection, and (4) we have not encountered in the literature reports of the use of sulfanilamide for this type of infection.REPORT OF CASES
