RT Journal A1 Scheuerle A T1 GEnetics is not a subspecialty JF Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine JO Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine YR 2007 FD December 1 VO 161 IS 12 SP 1219 OP 1219 DO 10.1001/archpedi.161.12.1219-a UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archpedi.161.12.1219-a AB I would agree that genetics is unlikely to have an ABP subboard, but not because genetics is “a very new clinical focus”; rather, because genetics is a separate specialty and has been a full-member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties since 1991. It is not a subspecialty of pediatrics or any other area of medicine. Genetics has its own residencies, medical board, and certifying process. More information can be found at the American Board of Medical Genetics (http://www.abmg.org) and the American College of Medical Genetics (http://www.acmg.net) Web sites.
