AB Seven years ago, Marcel Kinsbourne gave a talk on school problems at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Pediatrics in Toronto. Half an hour after he finished his address, the audience was still surrounding him to ask questions. Reportedly, the hall could be cleared only by asking him to record what he said for future reference. He did, and since then he has been active on the lecture circuit, writing, and doing research in the areas of hyperactivity, school problems, and "minimal brain dysfunction."According to the book jacket, his latest book is "essential reading for physicians who screen problem children." It is intended to be a practical guide to assessment and management.The book contains chapters on "cognitive power disorders" (learning disabilities), diagnostic techniques, interpretive interviews, prognosis and prediction, remediation, and "cognitive style disorders" (children with hyperactive, "overfocused," impulsive behavior).
