AB The opportunity to review this multi-authored book to which I contributed was taken eagerly since it was a stimulus to examine the work of 39 contributors from Great Britain, Holland, Sweden, Belgium, and the United States. At once it is clear that this complete treatise on pediatric cardiology has a favorable balance. As indicated in the preface, this work was "edited in the true sense of the word" so that the multi-authored book has a "certain uniformity of style, while at the same time leaving each chapter with an individual flavor." This was accomplished by time "spent putting American, European and sometimes even English English into Scottish English." (The editor is from Dundee, Scotland.)The first ten of the 68 chapters are devoted to important background material with detailed descriptions of cardiac embryology and anatomy, the fetal and neonatal circulation, incidence and etiology of congenital cardiovascular diseases, and modern diagnostic
