The author emphasizes the problems by devoting individual chapters to the medical complications of adolescent pregnancy, social service problems, educational deprivations, sex education and contraception, and abortion. Each chapter is well organized and referenced.Dr. Osofsky's genuine and well founded enthusiasm for comprehensive care programs for adolescent girls is apparent in every section of the book. It is refreshing to learn that there are some solutions to the social problems of early, out of wedlock pregnancy. The Syracuse, NY Y-MED Program (Young Mothers Educational Development Program), which the author directs, is an answer to the problems and deserves attention from those physicians, paramedical personnel, and educators who face similar problems in their own communities.
