AB The purpose of Hypersensitivity as stated by the author is "to provide the background for a broad view of allergy" and "to cover in adequate detail the handling of the diseases with which the physicians may be concerned in practice" of allergy. The latter purpose of the book refers to atopic allergy and is the subject of the last 323 pages. This section provides a detailed description of methods of history taking, diagnostic tests, and management of allergy patients even including a method of preparing vaccine from collections of house dust. The material is presented graphically, in detail, and objectively. Since history, diagnosis, and treatment are similar in skin and respiratory allergies, there is considerable repetition. The author does not make unsupported claims for the efficacy of injection therapy (the term preferred to desensitization or hyposensitization), but presents studies reporting both good response and poor response to injection programs.
