He’d had a few brief febrile seizures during the preceding days, but after seeing his playful ways that afternoon, I honestly did not think another thought about it. Instead of studying the infant’s chart more thoroughly as a medical student should, I tracked down a dictionary to look up the word cherub. All day the doctors and nurses had used the term whenever they spoke about the smiling new patient. Indeed, he fit the description: his chubby cheeks and golden locks resembled those of an angel.
