CDI has a wide variation in severity, ranging from asymptomatic colonization to severe diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis, toxic megacolon, bowel perforation, and death. In recent years, the incidence of CDI, number of hospitalizations, associated deaths, and severity in adults have been increasing.1- 2
