The review article by Tobian and colleagues1 differs from most review articles. Review articles typically give an overview of the literature, but Tobian and colleagues present evidence to support their hypothesis while ignoring contradictory evidence. This includes studies of herpes simplex virus type 2 seroconversion,2 human papillomavirus infection,3 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection,4- 5 cervical cancer in female partners,6 and infections in female partners.7
