We thank Dr Baptist and Ms Louthain and Drs Antonow and Byington for their comments regarding our recent article.1 We would like to reiterate our recommendations that previously healthy infants with clinical bronchiolitis may not need further laboratory evaluation for serious bacterial infections. These recommendations were based on our retrospective data and available literature only. Unfortunately, neither our study nor any other study in the literature has definitively answered the questions of which infants do need further testing or whether infants with bronchiolitis have a higher risk of bacteremia, urinary tract infection, and meningitis than children without bronchiolitis.
