I enjoyed the editorial of Drs Maxwell and Yaster in the May issue of the ARCHIVES.1 When health maintenance organizations begin to tally and publicize the percentage of circumcized newborns who received anesthesia (as a measure of quality of care), then hospital administrators will require anesthesia from the physician doing the circumcisions. Finances will prove more compelling than education.
