RT Journal A1 Arisaka O, Kanazawa S, Ohyama M, Nitta A, Suzumura H, Kuribayashi T T1 ELevated circulating estradiol level in neonatal ovarian cyst JF Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine JO Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine YR 1999 FD November 1 VO 153 IS 11 SP 1202 OP 1203 DO UL http://dx.doi.org/ AB During the past few years we encountered 5 patients with OC who were given the diagnosis prenatally, which allowed us to measure their circulating levels of estradiol (E2) serially after birth. Two of the 5 patients who had unilateral large cysts (5 cm in diameter) underwent periodic ultrasound-guided percutaneous cyst aspiration for prevention of ovarian torsion until 1 month of age; the E2 level of the cystic fluid was 9200 pmol/L and 25,100 pmol/L, respectively. The remaining 3 patients who had unilateral or bilateral cysts (each 2-4 cm in diameter) were observed conservatively by carrying out serial ultrasonography. Subsequently, all the cysts showed spontaneous resolution at around 6 months of age. The changes in the circulating levels of E2 in these 5 patients are illustrated in Figure 1.
