It is hard to understand Dr Hertz' impression about inadequate breast-feeding occurring even during phototherapy; breast milk intake in this group was obviously better than in the other 2 groups during exposure, as weight gain even with a 3-hourly regimen was the highest among the 3 groups. This could hardly be due to ineffective breast-feeding, but is rather proof that breast-feeding was successful. Indeed, the previous weight loss before exposure had been largely corrected during phototherapy.
