In this era of constantly shifting health care systems, there is a need for good data to estimate future staffing needs. Few studies explore individual practices for estimates of practice capacity. There are some estimates of the number of children and adolescents cared for by pediatricians, but Boscian et al, through the Pediatric Research in Office Settings (PROS) network, provide concrete information on the average number of patients per practitioner as well as the age and sex of their patients through direct sampling in actual practice settings through the PROS network.
