H., a white boy aged 12 years, was admitted to the pediatric service of the Memorial Hospital on Oct. 14, 1938, because of vomiting and passing of blood.The mother stated that the onset of the infection occurred five days previous to the time of admission, when the patient had a cold with some general discomfort. On the next day he had a severe headache and a temperature of 102.2 F. He was constipated, had severe epigastric pain and began to vomit all his food. On the next day the temperature rose to 103 F.
