RT Journal T1 THe throat distemper of 1735-1740. It was carefully done, and Dr. Caulfield spared no pains in following every clew available. His clear demonstration that this throat distemper was not only scarlet fever but diphtheria, and his ability to distinguish very largely between the different epidemics alone would make this a valuable contribution. Aside from presenting the medical material, the book gives one valuable insight into the times from a unique angle.
