RT Journal T1 THe newer knowledge of nutrition. JF American Journal of Diseases of Children JO American Journal of Diseases of Children YR 1939 FD August 1 VO 58 IS 2 SP 448 OP 448 DO 10.1001/archpedi.1939.01990080224024 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archpedi.1939.01990080224024 AB This edition of the book (the fourth was published in 1929) has been entirely rewritten. However, the original plan and scope of the work have been retained. Roughly, the plan is to trace the science of nutrition through its historical background and to discuss the various dietary requirements of mankind. These are carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals and vitamins. The final chapters deal with the dietary properties of foodstuffs, with appetite and with dietary habits. An enormous task has been satisfactorily completed. Of especial interest are the chapters on the vitamins, which carry the references in the literature to the present. Every chapter carries a complete bibliography. This book should be read by every member of the medical profession. It is excellently printed and would be an invaluable addition to any library.
