AB In no branch of medicine do sulfanilamide and its derivatives occupy a position of greater importance than in treatment of the infections occurring during infancy and childhood. Although these preparations are comparatively new, the literature pertaining to their use has already become voluminous and is international in its scope. The clinical and laboratory investigations pertaining to this drug have far exceeded those of any other pharmaceutic preparation in this generation. At present there is considerable confusion, as in some instances several names have been used for the same compound or the same name has been used for several related compounds. Adding to this confusion is the frequent reference to these chemicals in complicated and variously written chemical formulas, which is bewildering to one not thoroughly versed in the terminology of organic chemistry. The variety and multiplicity of the toxic manifestations of the different compounds add further to the confusion.Because
