Most, but certainly not all, have focused on professional athletes in the National Football League and the National Hockey League, the increased prevalence of early dementia in this group, the tragic suicides related to this loss of function, and the appearance of chronic traumatic encephalopathy in their brains at autopsy. There has also been a host of lay press coverage on concussive injuries occurring in high school athletes and the consequences to them and their lives as a result of these injuries.
