In volume 1, the first section, "Basic Concepts," covers morphogenesis and development of cardiac structure, fetal and postnatal circulations, and the epidemiology of congenital cardiovascular malformations. Cardiac anatomy and terminology are considered in the context of noncardiac surgery. In the second section, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome problems are discussed, with obstetrical perspectives. In the third section, congenital cardiovascular defects are discussed.
In volume 2, fourth section, the right ventricular and pulmonary outflow tract abnormalities, mitral valve abnormalities, and abnormalities such as a univentricular heart and cardiac malposition are discussed. The fifth section discusses disorders of cardiac rhythm, including syncope and sudden death. The sixth section concludes with other special problems such as atherosclerosis, pulmonary hypertension, altitude disease,
