All those engaged in or reviewing clinical research in children will find this book valuable as an introduction to and a reference on ethical issues. I particularly recommend it to those at the outset of a research career and to new members of institutional review boards in the United States or research ethics committees in Canada. The editor and many of the 25 contributors to this volume are Canadian, but the discussions are fully applicable to the United States. In particular, the section dealing with legal considerations is applicable to US law.
Multiauthorship leads to inevitable redundancy, but there is compensation for the reader by having a variety of perspectives. There is a chapter by a pediatric nurse who has served on a research ethics committee, a chapter by a community parent who has similiarly served, and a chapter by a lawyer experienced in these issues.
