ABSTRACT

ONE OF LIFE'S great mysteries is why some of us are so lucky. Once again I find myself among a fortunate group as I assume the editorship of the newest, oldest pediatric journal in America. Vince Fulginiti and his predecessors from 1911 on, have left a legacy that will be a challenge to uphold. Yet I feel a real excitement mingled with the apprehension of responsibility. I learned very early in life that a blessing, gift, or plain good luck should never be accepted without understanding the responsibility that goes with it.

This first issue of Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, nee American Journal of Diseases of Children (AJDC), marks a new title, a new design, a new direction and, alas, a new (well, at least a not-so-old) editor.

The change in title allows us to join the other nine specialty journals published by the American Medical Association that
