The first edition of Clinical Pediatric Neurology was welcomed in 1988 and has become the primary child neurology textbook used by pediatric and neurology house staff. As Dr Fenichel notes, "Patients still present with complaints rather than diseases"; the only other text in our specialty, to my knowledge, that uses this format is Pediatric Neurology, by Ingrid Gamstorp (last edition published in 1985).
The book is divided into 18 chapters, virtually identical to those in the first edition. The clinical descriptions are succinct and often include the author's personal experience. Appropriate tables and illustrations are included. Information on newer disorders, such as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome encephalopathy and Lyme disease, has been expanded. Some of the categorizations in the various chapters, however, appear a bit artificial; for example, the chapter on paroxysmal disorders has a table on paroxysmal disorders of infancy that includes everything from cyanotic breathholding spells to glutaric aciduria
