ABSTRACT

As a response to lay interest in health education, a number of inexpensive publications are available to supplement the information provided by pediatricians and other health care professionals. Such material is especially useful for new parents who do not have access to the support and advice of experienced parents. Pediatricians, therefore, should become familiar with publications that augment their education of parents and should actively promote the use of such books by parents.

Although subtitled "A Parent's Guide to Prescription and Over-the-Counter Drugs," this book contains more than information about medications. It was written by two professional writers in consultation with pediatrician Ira Salafsky, MD. The language, style, and content should appeal to a broad readership.

The book is divided into two major segments. The first is entitled "Children's Medicine." Within that portion is good information about safety, poison prevention, immunizations, nutrition, and techniques for the administration of medication. Guidelines
