This multiauthored general pediatric text provides a new approach to pediatrics for health care practitioners who deal with children. This approach encompasses all aspects of health care—prevention, screening, consultation, legal and environmental issues, as well as the pathophysiology and treatment of disease.
The book is well organized into sections dealing with different aspects of child health. The initial chapters of the book concentrate on general aspects of pediatric care—the health care system, legal issues, and interviewing techniques. In addition, chapters on the art of consultation and medical literature assessment are included. These are brief and give a general overview. Adequate references are provided for further reading.
Following these initial chapters, the first third of the book is devoted to screening and anticipatory guidance (including an excellent chapter on nutrition in infants, children, and adolescents), the family, school health, and behavior problems of both young children and adolescents.
