Dr Fulginiti was born in Philadelphia on Aug 8, 1931. He received his MD degree from the Temple University in 1957, interned at Philadelphia General Hospital, and completed a pediatric residency at Temple University (St Christopher's Hospital) in 1961. He had an Infectious Diseases Fellowship with C. Henry Kempe, MD, at the University of Colorado, Denver, joined and remained on the faculty there from 1962 to 1969, at which time he became the head of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Arizona, Tucson. He resigned that position on Jan 1, 1985, completing 16 years as a head. He has been editor of the AJDC since January 1983. His professional interests also include infectious diseases, developmental immunology, and medical education. He is married to Shirley Van Gorden Fulginiti and they have three children John, Laura, and Paul.
