Sir.—Pediatricians for a long time have been great healers, first of the body and then of the mind. Armed with much knowledge and with sophisticated machines, we can do almost anything within reason—and sometimes even more. However, we need to face up to the possibility, even probability, that our knowledge now exceeds our wisdom.
Today, due to a confluence of circumstances, pediatricians are beginning to see the necessity of learning to heal not only the body and the mind but also the third component of personality, the spirit.
This confluence involves three primary factors. As has always been true, pediatricians continually strive to improve the quality of service we offer our patients. The second emerging factor is the necessity to strive to increase the quantity of our income. The third factor is the increasing number of families with SERIOUS PROBLEMS OF THE SPIRIT.
