This book is a collection of articles authored by 67 experts in the field of liver disease and presented at an international conference on extrahepatic biliary atresia in New York in November 1981. As such, it is the first book devoted entirely to a discussion of the cause, evaluation, medical, nutritional and surgical therapy, pathology, and current research of extrahepatic biliary atresia.
The strengths of the book include its distinguished author list that numbers many of the preeminent experts in the field (eg, Alagille on liver histopathology, Kasai on the hepatic portoenterostomy, and Starzl on liver transplantation). Some topics are particularly well covered, including the spectrum of diagnostic studies available, surgical interventions and outcomes, and the therapeutic and nutritional aspects of biliary atresia.
