Sir.—Your "Letter From the Editor" in reply to Dr Herbert Barrie's "Campaign of Terror" refers to me twice.1 You accuse me of provoking an outbreak of whooping cough by my pronouncements about the risks of pertussis vaccine; you also accuse me of overemphasizing its side effects, of minimizing the risks of the disease, and of ignoring facts.
In saying all this, I imagine that you have not yourself ignored the fact that vaccine acceptance (ie, pertussis vaccine, not the others) has remained low in most parts of Great Britain since 1975 and that for this to prevail there must be many, besides myself, who have doubts about its safety. You surely also know that these doubts are shared by many well-informed persons in the United States. If you are yourself ignorant of this fact, I would suggest that a brief glance at the files of the bill (S2950)
