This extremely well-illustrated book traces fetal development from conception to birth. A brief but comprehensive narrative accompanies each stage. The atlas first illustrates development of the entire fetus and discusses basic embryology. It then addresses development of various organ systems from the embryonic to the newborn stages.
The atlas is very cohesive and contains hundreds of color illustrations of extremely high quality. I am quite surprised at the low cost of the book ($39.95) when the number and quality of illustrations are taken into account.
This atlas should be useful for the general pediatrician, perinatologist, neonatologist, obstetrician, or any other person dealing with the perinatal or neonatal period. I have already used it in parental counseling and for illustrating points of development to house staff and students. This atlas is well worth the investment, and I recommend it highly to those who require such a reference source.
