ABSTRACT

The Atlas of Dermatology With Differential Diagnoses by Rassner and Kahn is an excellent color atlas, containing some of the highest quality color illustrations I have seen in textbooks. It also contains sufficient introductory information on structure and function of the skin, skin appendages, and definition of lesion types, so as to orient the nondermatologist to the descriptive summaries that accompany the illustrations. However, this atlas will not substitute for a teaching textbook of dermatology. Although a good fraction of pediatric conditions are covered, it does not emphasize pediatric diseases specifically and, consequently, will be of more use to the generalist. The very few substandard illustrations that were present in the first edition have been replaced with excellent quality illustrations in this edition. Most of the illustrations are good examples of classic appearances of the described conditions. However, Fig 10 depicts a much more severe example of lamellar ichthyosis than
