This is a disappointing book. The aim, as stated in the preface, is "to focus on respiratory disease in children" and to "help the reader improve his diagnostic skills...." However, in the nearly 1,000 pages of beautifully printed text and clear illustrations, there are many errors, substantial omissions, and misplaced emphasis.
The translation from the original French has many archaic spellings and is often clumsy. Drug names (even generic names) are French equivalents and not easily extrapolated to American usage. Radiographs are reproduced in the European negative style. The text is often overly descriptive and wordy, and the index is not easy to use. The table of contents is short and does not easily identify what is within chapters.
Errors of fact abound, and there are many important omissions: streptococcosis is ignored as a cause of nasopharyngitis in infants; tympanometry is not discussed in the chapter on otitis; acute laryngitis
