• A prospective study of tooth eruption was performed in 167 infants ranging from 27 to 40 weeks' gestational age at birth. Eruption of the first tooth was timed according to both chronologic and post-conceptual age. Based on chronologic age, the premature infants got their first tooth later than infants born at term. Based on conceptual age, premature infants got their first tooth at the same time as full-term infants.
