This book reflects the author's extensive personal experience with the spectrum of spinal muscular atrophies of infancy and childhood. All aspects of the subject are covered, beginning with the clinical features and extending to a discussion of classification, morphology (including electron microscopy), electrophysiology, and a discussion of pathogenesis. The book is a high-quality publication with excellent photomicrographs and electron micrographic reproduction. Translation from Polish has been handled well and all in all it is an excellent publication.
I do not believe the general pediatrician will find much here of particular interest or relevance in terms of his practice. However, it can be highly recommended to pediatric neurologists, geneticists, and others who have a special interest in this group of disorders.
