Sir.—I am convinced that lives now needlessly lost due to severe systemic reactions to insect stings could be saved. How? By a greater awareness of the possibility of such fatal reactions plus knowledge of the existence of an insect sting kit. The kit is an emergency first aid measure to stave off anaphylaxis. Because of my convictions, I am presently collecting and correlating data on the incidence of such fatalities.
I am especially interested in the time lapse between sting and death, although information concerning the following would be helpful: (1) time sequence of symptoms, (2) previous reactions to insect stings, (3) medication on hand at the time of sting, (4) type of medication, (5) type of insect, (6) number of stings, and (7) estimation as to whether or not a physician or hospital emergency room could have been reached in time to avoid a fatal outcome.
