This is the fifth volume in the Saunders series, Major Problems in Neurology. Dr Gubbay is a neurologist who worked with John Walton, MD, the consulting editor for the series, in Newcastle on Tyne prior to returning to Perth. He has been studying and working with clumsy children for many years and has several published articles to his credit. The book is oriented toward medical practitioners with the hope it will serve as a reference for educators and psychologists.
The book is organized into six chapters. Chapter 1 tries to define clumsiness in childhood, a difficult task when one considers the changes in coordination that occur in normal child development. It then exhaustively reviews the various metabolic, degenerative, and neuromuscular, disorders that produce motor dysfunction and result in poor coordination.
