This book is a member of the Birth Defects: Original Article series of the National Foundation—March of Dimes. As such, it carries on the already-established very high caliber of others in this series. There are contributions by many eminent geneticists, radiologists, and pediatricians. The articles are generally concise, well researched, and accompanied by highquality illustrations. The roentgenographic reproductions are generally good.
As part of the Birth Defects series, this volume serves neither as a text nor as an atlas of the skeletal dysplasias, but rather is oriented toward new findings and unusual variants of the more common forms of dwarfism and reports of the rarer and more obscure dysplasias.
The first section of the book is concerned with these unusual aspects of the skeletal dysplasias and many interesting variants. Newly described skeletal dysplasias are presented. The second portion of the volume is devoted to biochemical abnormalities encountered in these patients
