Samuel J. Fomon, MD, one of the recognized authorities on infant nutrition, has updated and greatly extended the standard book on infant nutrition first published in 1967. In the intervening seven years, the author has added two years to Infant Nutrition, so that the material now covers the period from birth to 3 years of age. In addition, he has added five chapters, two appendices, and nine contributors, although one of the contributors, L. J. Filer, Jr., MD, PhD, presumably had much to do with the first edition also.
The book is an up-to-date and dispassionate presentation of what is sometimes a very emotional subject. The material covered is a current review of almost everything that is known in infant nutrition today. The references are excellent and extensive. The sections on obesity, failure to thrive, mental retardation, and low-birth-weight infants all contain information that is valuable as a source reference
