Congenital and Neonatal Leukemia—Lymphocytic or Myelocytic?

To our knowledge, this is the first case of neonatal leukemia in which morphological and extensive cytochemical studies were performed. Although morphologically classifiable as myelogenous in cell type, cytochemical data defined this case as being lymphoblastic, as did the patient's response to chemotherapy. Both morphological and cytochemical studies should be performed on all future cases of congenital and neonatal leukemia, so that the origin of the cell types involved can be defined more precisely.
